Manifold studs

Post by sump »

Hi All,

Any one any experience of removing the three studs from the inlet manifold on a 1.9 DG water cooled engine?

They seem incredibly tight and the 2 nut way with loads of WD40 has done 0! :?:

Do you mean 1 inch from manifold to bottom of jaw anyhow much heat?

Should I concentrate the heat to the stud or manifold?

Thanks in advance

They are fixed with loctite. Heat the manifold off the engine with a propane lamp and remove the central cold start hedgehog heater first!

As SB says...direct heat at the manifold around base of stud. How much? Moving about torch for 30 seconds to a minute should do it. Jaws about one inch above manifold to minimise twist.
Impact driver for hedgehog screws. And a bit more heat!

Thanks for the advice I have been soaking them for two days now and putting the molegrips as recommended I have just moved one stud about half way out I think. So I'll carry on with this method penetrating oil and muscle power (except I don't have much) but I guess that may stop them breaking off with a little luck!

Heat!. Even a hair drier ser at max will help.
I use a hot air gun/paint stripper.
