Aftermarket front Opening Quarterlights

Post by keynsham1 »

I have fitted a set of aftermarket opening quarterlights to my van and to be honest the quality and fit are totally shocking. I eventially got them to fit together after a lot of fettling (They certainly do not just assemble as sold) but the window seal leaves a gap on both doors all around the front of the quarterlight glass when the quaterlights are closed which would let water in but most alloyingly whistles very loudly at over 30 mph.

I was wondering if anyone else has ever fitted after market qwuaterlights and had similar problems? I cannot see any easy fix for these apart from possibly removing them and trying to twist the aluminium frame to get the seal to sit in closer but I am not sure that will really work. It maybe that the aftermarket seals are just badly moulded too of course but I have no origial for comparison.

I have draught excluder in the gap at the moment but it wasn't what I had in mind when I bought the kit!! I think they will have to come out for now. It is not a huge task to refit the old fixed ones. Then I can think about the best plan to make them work!

Could you get your money back from the place you got them from ?  I have some original opening 1/4 light frames , one needs a repair but the other is good, i can supply new original vw seals to go with them.

I got mine to fit, just about, had to get hold of some original hinges, used original seals too.

I got mine too off a well know Vw classic parts seller.

Responded with a detailed email about how bad first of all how they were made. I actually had to slit them in half to get them to fit.

The fit was so bad I will not do the passenger side as I don’t want to endure that torture again.

No response from seller after I asked for my money back!

NLA VW

No point in not naming and shaming and letting someone else get conned.
