Strange rear lights problem.

Post by alancabriolet »

The brake lights and the reversing lights both come on together. I've checked earths and all the contacts on the back of the light clusters and all ok.
I then used a tester and at both sides, the supply into the brake light and the reversing light are live whichever function is activated. Had a look at the wiring diagram in the Haynes manual and can't see anywhere where they could be connecting.
Any ideas?

Brake lights are normally activated by the brake master cylinder switches, the reversing light via a switch on the gearbox. Worth having a look in these areas and the fuse box area.

Have you fitted new bulbs lately may be incorrect with an off-set pin or twin filament
