Checking Oil level

Post by Jay Peg »

Hi there,

is there an official way to check the oil level on a 2.0 air cooled? Specifically, should the engine be cold (so oil is sitting in bottom of engine) or should you run the engine and then let it settle.. I Couldn’t find any info in the Haynes manual on this..
I’ve done both. Cold gives a nice easy to read line on the dipstick, I’ve run the engine too, to get the engine warm, but it takes sometime after the engine has stopped before I get a decent line on the dipstick.. Which can be a bit frustrating if you’re at a petrol station (usually level ground so good for me, as there is no level ground where I live).
If there’s any solid advice on this it would be greatly appreciated..

Many thanks

Jay

Cold or 15 mins after a run on level ground.
