Gutters: thoughts please

Post by Ruddles »

So, after lots of looking online, went to view a van in person today. I would appreciate your thoughts on these gutters- what’s going on here and what work would you do if it was your van? Will it cost a lot, shall I just keep looking or is it fixable? Cheers

That's not good. What is the asking price for the van? As it's going to take a lot of money to put that right. There could well be some unseen horrors beneath that roof.

That roof will need to come off and, as already said, be prepared for more corrosion.

Mine is an elevating roof, so gutters are in quite good condition, those look awful however, and would require a lot of time and money to repair, lots of previous posts on here regarding roofs and gutter problems have a search of the topics to see what has been done by others along with images they posted of what they found underneath.

Thanks all, appreciate your help. They’re asking £9,000 for it. Sounds like maybe it’s not worth the risk then to repair…

My gutters didn't look as bad as yours but this was what lurked under the hightop:

YOu are looking at thousands to get it fixed properly. I was able to strip my van and remove the hightop myself but it was still very expensive to fix as there is so much work to do.

I would definitely walk away unless you can buy it for peanuts. £9k is fantasy!!!

Jesus, there’s some proper messers out there! Would love to know how they came to that price - even with all the work required it looks as though it’s been a while since it even had sponge and some water over it.

Tin tops are the way to go - then there's no hiding for the rust (OK I'm biased!)

A lot of people are blissfully unaware how much of a complete wreck their campers are, and they see actual good ones for sale for £9k and think theirs is worth the same. They'll see what we know as terminal rot and think it's just a few little bubbles that will touch up with a dab of paint.
