Tinkering with Turbo

Post by Spailpin Fanach »

Hi all

Welcome to summer!

I was out in Saoirse, my bus, yesterday, going up and down a lot of hills. She could charge up steep hills at a good rate of knots, once the turbo had kicked in at 2200rpm or so. If I had to slow down and went under 2000 revs, it took a long time to build up a head of steam again. So far, so usual with 1.6TD JX engine.

This make me wonder if it's possible to adjust the turbo so it kicks in at, say, 1500 revs or even lower, to give the bus some grunt on hill starts.

I'll get tdi engine swap in a year or so when I can afford it but currently looking for other options to get a bit more oomph in lower gears and on hills.

The engine itself is rock solid and doesn't give me a moments worry, except on hill starts.

Thanks
