A Pillar lip bending advice

Post by BigBlueVan »

Hi All,

Does anyone have an tips for bending the A pillar lip around the inner a pillar structure?
It was just bent around making a 180degree return from factory and then sealed.
You cannot get a hammer and dolly in,, is there a tool which should be used?

Photo of area in question, the lip is currently at 90 degrees and needs forming around the metal you can see under in.
Image

Thanks.

There are special crimping tools for doing door skins. Perhaps that would work. You're tight for space so swinging a hammer at it will be problematic.

You could maybe make a chas/drift to gently knock it in.

I would be thinking of wooden pieces of varying thickness and profile that I could knock in towards the front of the bus hence folding the panel over 90 degrees. Maybe contour a piece of wood to temporarily sit in that gap behind you hinge panel to give your something to lever against?

Just thoughts? Matt

you need to clamp it up into its correct position, then tap the lip round using a curved hammer with a dolly sat on the out side face, skinning tools are ok but not a magic fix tool, you can use them to get the edge further around but you need to get it round first, use something to protect the panel when clamping and be gentle, tease it slowly
