Rear camber and toe adjustable on all vans ?

Post by MagicWagon »

TL:DR
Is the rear camber and toe definitely adjustable on all 2wd T25's ? (Garage says no)
Are my rear right values far enough out to take it back to the garage ? (Camber = - 1° 39' Toe =
+ 0° 24' - measured for max load)

I just returned from having a 4 wheel Hunter Tracker laser wheel alignment at a place recommended by someone on a local classic car forum.
I've compared the before and after printout with the settings found in the wiki.
Looks like they've gone for the "Max Load" settings as shown here https://club8090.co.uk/wiki/Steering_an ... _Alignment which I guess is OK for a Camper (1983 2.0L 2wd Aircooled Devon).
However, the right rear Camber and Toe are out of tolerance, whereas the left rear are spot on.
Right rear camber =  - 1° 39' (should be - 2° 10' +/- 10') - a fair bit out of tolerance, but only just outside the allowed difference between wheels of  0° 30' (Rear left camber currently = - 2° 10')
Right rear toe = + 0° 24' (should be + 10' +/- 10') - just outside tolerance
They told me there is no adjustment for this on these vans, whereas the haynes manual says there is.
So my questions are
Is the rear camber and toe definitely adjustable on all 2wd T25's ?
Are my values far enough out of tolerance to bother taking it back ?
Thank you.

Yes it is adjustable, in the same way, on all 2WD and 4WD Syncro vans.

The Camber is set with the outer trailing arm bolt by loosening it, and moving that end of the trailing arm up or down using the vertically slotted holes in the outer bracket. The Toe is set with the inner trailing arm bolt by loosening it, and moving that end of the trailing arm front or rear using the horizontally slotted holes in the inner bracket.

Tightening torque for both trailing arm bolts is 105Nm (76 ft lb).

Here are the rear axle values given in Bentley for a 2WD van:

As Clift says, there are values for rear adjustment.
Go back with the manual and explain.
I had the same issue with my local garage. To be fair they apologised immediately and did everything a second time including rear toe and camber. And what a difference it makes.
The reason behind this failing is the computer. The mechanic puts in your reg number and adjusts accordingly. The computer does not have details of rear adjustment for many of these van. Mine's an 1989. Your's a 1983. So a wide range indeed.

Thanks all. Took it back and showed them the adjustment bolts and Haynes manual. The were very apologetic. The van drives lovely now.

I presume you have had the rear bushes replaced on the arms? one reason that garages often don't do the rear on T3's is that the outer bolt wont come undone.

WHY T3's.... because they are just so adictive, and having one just aint enough
