205 or 215 65 16 on Tolimans?

Post by ash1293 »

Any opinions on which to go for, 205 or 215 65 on 16” Tolimans.

Et 33 version so hoping no spacers.

Healthy 1.9Dg on new bilstein shocks & springs.

Yet to decide on brand/budget as I was originally looking at a few delivery mileage sets removed from late T5 & 6 vans.

generally as close to stock tyre diameter as possible so engine in happy place, depends which code gearbox you have of course, I run 205/65/15 on the pickup with a 2.5 scooby and 0.765 4th gear and 4.86 final drive (non standard gearbox)

Cheers, I did know the gearbox code once upon a time but long forgotten.
It’s a 5 speed on an 89/90 but that doesn’t narrow it down significantly.

I’ll take a look while I get round to changing the mount.

I run both the tyre sizes you mention In your first post, with the 205 on the front. Lighter steering with 205, the 215 was pretty heavy going.
I also have a Subaru so handles the bigger tyres better. They fit no worries though

You will need spacers on the front with 225s , 10mm spacers
no spacers needed on the rear .

Cheers, definitely wasn’t going to go as wide as 225, with just the 1.9dg probably stick with 205, hopefully no spacers with et33.

Bit wet out here for much here today so settled for a final rub down of wheels for topcoat but I did manage to scrabble under the van to see I have a box with code ASM.

ASM is 4.67 final drive same as the AAP (2.1) but with tall 2nd, so 2nd to 3rd isn't a big jump and 4th to 5th isn't either as 0.85 fifth; post 1985 emissions 1.9 would struggle to be clean at speed with 0.82 fitted to the  2.1s AAP.
