Sliding door lock mech - fixable?
Unlocking has for a while now been a bit hit and miss - mainly miss! Usually open psg door and reach in and unlock it that way.
Took mech out today to see if I could sort it.
Everything seems to move easy, it looks pretty clean but when the key is turned to unlock, it just doesnt push the activator.
I gace it a good blast with the air aline and a good soak with spray lube but no improvement.
It is sealed unit - anyone know if its worth the effort of splitting it - or is it a case of new part needed

Re: Sliding door lock mech - fixable?
Cheers Jeff.
Not the bit thats faulty. Good video though - nice to know there is a latch fix for when the time comes.
On mine - Using the key, I can lock it - but I can't unlock it. I can unlock from inside and the door handle works as it should.
I had the mech out on the bench - The key operation is basic, it pushes a bar back and forth against a lever. I can move the lever manually (left) to unlock it - but it wont do it with the key. like its gone a nano-fraction too far and now beyond the sweet spot

Do you mean the lock bar in the handle? This did cross my mind but I figured the key is turning it and wants to continue to turn but resistance is stopping it.

sounds to me like there is something wrong with the actual lock and wafers. In the above video is shows how to replace the door handle, but gives a good view of the lock as they swap it over. Might be a good place to start?

Key and barell work pefectly when off vehicle. It had been failing intermittently for a while - i'd manage to get it operating but then next time I came to unlock it, it would only tuen a bit.
I'll try and get some vid of it for posterity

Re: Sliding door lock mech - fixable?
Have you had the whole lock assembly out.
Mine was paggered and refused to lock and unlock.
Turned out that a piece had snapped loose.
When refitted and tack-welded together, it worked fine again.

Re: Sliding door lock mech - fixable?
Hi Robsey,
That is the fault shown in one of the videos, amazing is the power of work hardening.
My door operates fine, it locks and unlocjs from inside fine (a tad stiff maybe) it locks with the key As it should, it just doesn't unlock from outside with the key.
Take the handle out of the lock and the key operates fine.
Yes, I took the whole thing out and gave it a good hard looking at, blasted it with air line and lube.

Re: Sliding door lock mech - fixable?
Popped open the duff lock - not easy. think i've found the reason for failure.
the lock lever is located on a shouldered shaft which goes through the lever and is then peened into the outer case on the outside.
Trapped between the lever and the case is a radial compression spring.
As the shouldered shaft wears, the spring is able to force the lever out of line - it only needs to be out a fraction and it starts to foul on the captive nut welded on the case.
Fixable - yes! is it worth the effort to turn and harden a new shaft, reassemble and replace the drilled out rivets -
