Did you fit it yourself? Is it contaminated with oil/ grease?

Re: Clutch problem
Are we talking about a clutch master cylinder and a slave cylinder being fitted or a new clutch plate etc and a clutch slave cylinder. The reason I ask is the contaminated reply above,

Re: Clutch problem
Ahhh, I read it as a new clutch and a slave cylinder, not a new master and slave.

Re: Clutch problem
Hi all thanks for replying
I fitted a slave cylinder and complete clutch from heritage parts when you put your foot on the clutch pedal it dis engages straight away I have been told you can cut the slave cylinder bar by 5mm is this correct and will it help
The system has been bled correctly and there is no contamination at all
Thanks everyone

Re: Clutch problem
Check for slight free movement at the arm. You should be able to push the arm up slightly, forcing fluid back from slave to master. If so, the slave isn't holding any pressure against the release bearing and the problem is in your clutch. Did you change the release bearing, and fit it correctly? Is the flywheel so worn it's deeper than it should be? Is it the correct clutch?
If all's well there, I wouldn't recommend cutting the rod, but perhaps you could swap it for the original one, or at least compare them. As a last resort try a spacer under the slave cylinder, because if it doesn't work, at least it's reversible when you find the problem.

Re: Clutch problem
As the clutch operation is hydraulic I don’t think it will make and difference, sounds like something isn’t releasing far enough, release bearing ?
Try bleeding the clutch to release the pressure and see if there’s any difference

Re: Clutch problem
what is the engine ? which exact clutch kit and which slave cylinder
if the FTE then is the plastic end bearing on the arm rather than the nipple of the lever arm which has corroded away ?
don't modify the clutch slave pushrod
do you have the clutch slave bracket support strut fitted ?

Re: Clutch problem
Thanks again everyone I will try to release the pressure by bleeding again
The clutch doesn’t slip all the time it’s only when I put my foot down sometimes it just doesn’t bite straight away
I am going to try all the suggestions to see if it helps
I’ll keep you posted on my progress thanks again everyone if do think of anything else please let me know
Cheers

Re: Clutch problem
No it wasn’t slipping before however the pedal was still right on the top so as soon as you touch the pedal the clutch disengaged

Check the length of the clutch slave rod, and the position of the slave , sounds like something is in the wrong position, I have a spare rod if you want to chop 5mm off yours to see if it fixed the issue , which it may

Re: Clutch problem
You should have 0.5-1mm of free play ay the master cylinder pushrod which translates inti 1/2-1" of free play in the pedal, if you have no free play at that end it suggests that the pushrod has been adjusted too tight
