depends which amp rating you need 65amp is 068 903 017 MX and the 90amp is 068 903 031 RX
if you look on Brickwerks you will see notes that the aftermarket alternators are fitted with the wrong pulley and so original VW pulley should be swapped over from original VW Bosch made unit
the pulley part number is 068 903 119 D, autodoc do seem to be able to supply the original Bosch pulley pulley link, so it may be your issue can be sourced without changing alternator just pulley, but with the part number info you should be able to search for correct parts
oemepc.com has an online parts catalogue so you can search for this information online yourself; temp gauge and warning light systems should obviously be checked for functionality as these vans get older wiring issues become more evident, warning light should initially come on when you turn on ignition as part of the dash self check functionality

There's a warning on Brickwerks for the 90a alternator as follows -
This alternator is not a straight fit. The bore for the swivel that the alternator mounts on should be 8mm but on these aftermarket alternators it's 10mm.
If you bolt it on unmodified it won't sit straight and will probably keep throwing belts off, you will need to sleeve this area for it to fit and work as it should.

If yours was replaced maybe this is the issue
