hey there,
im very new here (this is my first post) so forgive me if i've missed an earlier discussion of a similar fault that i should have tagged onto.
Last year it suddenly started cutting out when warm. It would cut out as soon as i stopped revving - that issue seemed to be solved by the replacement of a piece of hose from somewhere (i didnt do this, the garage did) that had a split in it and was letting air into somewhere you dont want it. This made sense to me as the van was fine for a long drive and then suddenly cut out and would restart from cold but not warm, persumably once the rubber had warmed up and the gap had widened.
Now, the van starts well and idles nicely, when i then apply the throttle to move away, its fine - until i apply the clutch and break to ease into a junction or change gear for a corner, then the engine light flickers and it cuts out. it restarts absolutely fine and continues to do the same thing for about 5 minutes after which time, it runs brilliantly with no issues at all. It seems to have been slightly worse on cold days (although this could be confirmation bias)
on a potentially irrelevent note changing gear is a bit stiff until the vans warm as well.
i've been taking it to a specialist who's been looking at the carbs and choke butterflies and done various tweaks but it doesn't seem to be making much difference, they've mentioned that the throttle linkage seems to be a bit of a bodge job and should probably be replaced at some point but i was wondering if anyone here had any alternative ideas as to my current problem.
i have zero experience so please talk to me like an absolute idiot.
Cheers
Daniel

Hi Daniel,
Dont worry about asking simpleton questions. Im still doing so after 14 years.
I assume your camper has a DG1.9 engine?
It's a straightforward system. But as these vans are knocking on 40 years then expect issues. Have you any service history to refer to?
Some close up photos of the engine bay can help spot an issues.
Likely pipe changed by mechanic is a vacuum pipe or duel pipe. Its important to know which one. So ask him. Yet there are many pipes associated with fuel and timing.
Firstly l would get the vehicle timing checked. Then the carb cleaned and sort out thottle linkage. Get all vacuum and fuel pipes checked. It even may be simply increasing idle to solve.
Change gearbox oil too.
Regards
Stuart

Oh! Just re-read title. This is an Aircooled version? Please confirm.
If so, then no idea. Wait for the Aircooled mob specialists to see your post.
