Sliding door hold open latch

Post by JeffRoo »

Hi all
1984 caravelle, anyone know where I can get a new spring for the latch that holds the sliding door open. Looked everywhere and can’t find it anywhere. Even looked at parts list that i have but still no joy
this bit,

thanks

I'm searching my notes, for where I got mine - they are difficult to get hold of. Here is a better picture to help others, searching their stash.

Maybe NV_VW_T25 has one?

Or buy one new; import costs to consider of course:

afaik the spring is the same as the later latch so get a used late one and canibalise it, I checked my stash last night but I don't have one spare anymore, Mick should have one though

I had same problem tracking down a new spring 2 years ago - ended up making one from a bicycle spoke!

Your photo is from one that is for sale on eBay and is still for sale. Is that not the simplest fix?

Thanks everyone for their help. Re buying the one on eBay, yes simple fix, but I don’t want the whole catch if I can just get a spring. Not super important at the mo, just niggly. Might have a go at the bike spoke thing
thanks again

Years ago, on one of my previous campers I replaced this spring with one from the clamp from a old set of jump leads ( I used the cabling from them for another job so was left with just the clamps )
it worked , was almost exactly the right thing by shear luck , that why I don’t throw things away .....
