CE1 Fuse box - Map of G Pins.

Post by Robsey »

Hi all,

As part of my conversion from early fuse box to the later CE1 fuse box, I mapped out every single pin in the fusebox.

Image

Image

I found that the pins in the "G" connector cluster are not used as much as they could be.

Image

They are numbered G1 to G10, starting top left and finishing bottom right.

Image

So - here is what I found.

Pin G1 (top left)
X-Contact (12v when running).
Black / Yellow wire for rear warm air blower if fitted.
Internal connections to:-
E8 - Black / Grey to rear wiper motor pin 53a
G3 - see below.
Output from fuse S12 -20 amps.
Relay 11 - pin 3 (53a)

Pin G2 (top right)
Ignition live -
Optional Black wire to Cruise control where fitted.
Internal connections to:-
A25 - Black wire to brake warning indication light.
D7
G5 - see below.
Output from Fuse S18 - normally 10amps, but uprated to 15amps where cruise control is fitted.

Pin G3
X-Contact (12v when running).
Normally signified by Black / Yellow wires.
Internal connections to:-
G1 - see above
E8 - Black / Grey to rear wiper motor pin 53a
Output from fuse S12 -20 amps.
Relay 11 - pin 3 (53a)

G4
Alternator Charge Light Signal.(61 rail).
Blue wire to auxilliary battery cut-out relay pin 86 where fitted.
Internal connections to:-
A16 - sometimes wired instead of E13, or wired to B1.
B1 - Blue wire to charge light in instrument cluster
C2.
D4
E13 - Blue wire to alternator pin D+

Pin G5.
Ignition live supply
Internal connections to:-
A25 - Black wire to brake warning indication light.
D7
G2 - see above.
Output from Fuse S18 -10 amps.

Pin G6
No specific function.
Internal links only to pins:-
A4
D1

Pin G7
56 Voltage rail. (Feed to head lamp circuit).
Internal connections to:-
A9 - White / Black wire from light switch pin 56, and also to the dip / high beam stalk pin 56.
M1 - not used.

G8
Dimming illumination.
Internally connected to:-
A1 - Grey / Blue wire for all dash switches and output from light switch rheostat).

G9
Non-dimming Illumination.
Internally connected to -
A26 - Grey wire to lighting rheostat pin 58e.
E1 - Grey / Green wire to rear number plate lights,
And fuse S20.

G10
X-Contact (12v when running).
Internal connections to
A19 - Green / Red to wash / wipe stalk switch pin T
C9 - Green / Red to front washer pump.
D5.

I hope it helps.
It has allowed me to wire in a few extras without having to chop into wires.

I have done a few tweaks, so please check for any of my corrections.
There were quite a few.

Being spade / lucar connectors, they are so easy to use for adding extras.

I notice, that it also answers a few other recent electrical threads.

interesting this, (E D I T) can i ask what sort of connections plug in the boxes with all the pins in them ?? (E D I T...i see it needs the plugs for the back on them)

Do you have a pic of this connected up in van yet ?

Found this aswell whilst i was researching more on this a while back, may help you out, not mine but could be handy

The van is a long way off from getting the electrics fitted.

There are a mix of connector pins used in the various plugs.
Most are hollow round female pins of two different sizes.

But connectors P, G, M and N (extra large spade) are simple spade connectors.

As I am doing a major electrical conversion...
I was a bit of a nerd, creating huge excel spreadsheets.

I also found it interesting looking at how the CE1 fuseboard is wired up in the front-wheel drive cars.

Do be aware though, that dependent upon body type, trim level and model year, the pins used may not be exactly the same between the physical van loom and the various wiring diagrams.

I could do tables for all connectors, but I don't know what the best format would be.

On my other forum, we used to make everything into pdf documents.
I tend to start off as excel files, and then print to pdf.

I am just an info whore, when it comes to researching projects on vehicles.

Just for info...
This is how I got my fusebox in 2018...

It looks very scary like this.
But modular connectors make it much easier.

That looks a right old birds nest there, but if the knowledge is there for what each block connector stands for then anything is doable, and being a brick not many of them wires are used anyhow with it having basic vehicle electrics and no fancy gizmo’s on it.

You would be surprised how many wires there are, but that appears to be mainly VW using the fusebox as a junction box, not just a source of fused power supply.

Wires loop in and out throughout the dash on the later loom.
The earlier loom is significantly much more practical with a lot more direct, shorter cable runs.

What info would you wish to see.?

Do you mean all connector pins for all plugs A to R?

As mentioned above - it is dificult to suss the best method to present this.
Especially as some connectors have as many as 20+ pins in them.

I think I bumped into a german version of that data somewhere on the net. Will try to find it again and then it is just translation.
