Sliding door won’t open
Hi,
First time user of the forum. Wondered if anyone can give some advice?
I own a 1981 T25 2.0 litre Aircooled. My sliding door has refused to open for well over a year now, I’ve finally got around to doing the resto and this is my first job.
I’ve removed the door card and cover plate, lost a screw which has fallen in an reachable place, consulted my Haynes manual, sprayed a lot of wd40 and basically got annoyed.
Any help would be gratefully received.

Re: Sliding door won’t open
So manually pulling the rod towards the front of the van has no effect ?

Re: Sliding door won’t open
The child lock is on the leading edge of the door - it is accessed when the door is open - you can still open the door from the outside.
as OBG is saying, the door release at the other end, operate the wire/bar and push the back edge of the door outwards

Re: Sliding door won’t open
Ah ok I think I get it, apologies OBG thought you were taking the pi$$!
The door won’t open from the outside so I guess it can’t be the child lock.
The cable moves freely towards the rear of the van and mechanism seems to be unhindered, but not pulled it the other way.
Will go for round two tomorrow.
Thanks everyone

Re: Sliding door won’t open
Hi all,
So round two has started. I’ve pulled the cable towards the front of the van and pushed the rear of the door outwards, there is slight moment from the bottom and middle of the door however the top remains firmly shut.
Any ideas?

Re: Sliding door won’t open
I suspect you will need to push the door outwards at the rear as you pull the rod/ wire , maybe try getting a operative to pull it up and out at the back at the same time .
if the adjustment is really bad and the striker worn it may need "jiggling"

Thanks for that, I’m still struggling, think it is definitely a two person job. It won’t defeat me!

Flick the catch that locks onto the pin at the rear with a screwdriver, simples.

Re: Sliding door won’t open
Where is that located, inside the door or outside?

Re: Sliding door won’t open
Inside the van on the rearmost edge of the door, latches on the pin on the bodywork. Easily seen.
