Sliding door switch & interior lighting?

Went mad recently and bought new interior light switches for the cab doors: interior lighting to the cab restored (previous switch cleaning efforts resulted in short-lived success).

But also noticed there is a door switch for the sliding door, with a wire attached.
What light is this supposed to operate, or is it a carry-over from its former life?
Shorting the wire doesn’t seem to bring any light on.
It’s a 1985 Devon: anyone got this wired or working to anything of a light-related nature?

It is designed to operate another interior light identical to the one at the front. The light is situated behind the sliding door in the section above the window. You will probably be able to feel for the rectangular hole in the panel through whatever covering you have. With luck there will be a live feed there already too.

On mine all the doors operate all the interior lights , no matter which door is opened ( either / both cab doors, tailgate or slider ) the loom goes up to the light above the slider side cab door , if you don’t have the light there , the junction is behind the headlining where the light should be

But mine is a Caravelle gl , maybe , and I can’t remember to be honest , lower spec are different ?

I think Devon made a conscious decision to disable the sliding door light because campers would have the door open all day?

Side note, could the lights all coming on be something to do with a tracker? as they'd all be connected to the door circuit? 
As everyone says though the light for the sliding door should be above the back window. You should find the existing wiring there to add to if there isn't already some stashed away in the roof.

I mean you can switch the original lights off with the built in switch on them so not sure why they'd do that.

Thanks everyone, thats all super-helpful.
The Devon doesn’t have headlining in the area described, rather carpet covered board, so the original interior light cut-out seems to be obscured.
But I now know what should be there, as well as how and where to approach re-fitting a light there, which would be helpful to have.
Next step: post a ‘wanted’ request for an interior light....

You can notch the sliding door switch to keep the lights off while door is open.
Just push it in.
