Hi on my 2.0 CU Aircooled engine the tappets are quite noisy. And all of a sudden. Had a look and found that one of the hydraulic lifters has become squishy.
Is this a sign of a new one is needed all the other ones are hard when pushing in with the push rod.

low oil level.
due an oil change.
wrong grade of oil.
not been run out on road for a while.
could be the above or possibly just that follower is damaged

I changed the oil whilst I had it up on the lift.
It was at a good level before I changed it and prob only had 1500km on the oil.
I have changed oil filter and new 20W50 mineral oil. I have always used this grade of oil.
Yes it hasnt been driven in a couple of days but its gets at least a drive once a week. Did about 150km last weekend.
It was definitely squishy so either air is trapped or its given up the go. I might order a few to have spare even thought they are quite expensive.

oh dear, probably a dying lifter then
might be worth looking at the end of the rocker screws but you probably already did that.
on my wbx i had a pushrod that wasn't letting the oil go through it but not sure if Aircooled have oil flowing through the pushrods
like the wbx.
i might be wrong but it looks like they have oil running through them

Ya they do indeed have a passage for oil. I cleaned them all out and blew with a compressor when re installing after the rebuild.
Looks like a few new Lifters will be heading my way soon

You can just replace one, run it for a while until it pumps up, repro ones don’t seem to be as good as originals, on the plus side air cooled ones are pretty easy to change

Mine quietens down quicker as the oil warms, but in this cold spell that takes much longer.

I have 1 on my CT that does this... a good 30 minute run will put things right..
Then check your tappets, engine warm, 1 litre of oil drained, contact + 1 to 1 1/2 turns, ...
The trouble with aftermarket cam followers is that they are rarely as good as OEM.....Kolbenschmidt..

Replaced it this evening with OEM Kolbenschmidt from brickwerks. Went round and checked the rest while I was there.
Took it for a run and no more noise.
