Dashboard illumintation lights

Post by TONYT25T25 »

One of the illumination lights over the speedo was playing up, tried to change it but on removing the whole white plastic holder a piece of metal measuring 1cm by approx 3cm was dislodged, found one but the other fell into the back of the binnacle, cannot find where this piece of metal fits into the unit as there appears to be no space for it. Any ideas where it fits??

Those metal inserts fit on the internal white plastic section. I have removed both as I have LED lights, the metal inserts are most likely heat/light reflectors but small sections of aluminium foil and a bit of glue do just as good a job and less likely to fall out in the future.

Thanks for response, unsure where they would fit, there is a plastic flap which looks as if moved to much would snap off, is this where they or the ally foil replacements fit onto.

That flap is the reflector and directs the light onto the instrument fascia, being white you do not really need the metal insert but you can use foil instead. That flap does break easily, if it does then use a strip of gorilla tape to hold it in place rather than glue - it has to have a bit of movement as it is slid into place.

Thanks again, I will probably place a bit of ally foil on it as the illumination was a bit dim to begin with, ordered a couple of new bulb fitments as the bulb seems to have failed on one side, I have noticed that the strip which carries the voltage to the bulb holder has come a bit loose so need to work on that when I get the new fitments.
