Headlight switch also activates one indicator (no flashing)

Post by graman »

Hi all, my right hand indicator wasn't flashing, but the hazards are working fine. I checked for corrosion around the bulbs front and back and replaced the bulb at the front, all good. But when driving after dark with the headlights on the same indicator is permanently on, could this be a problem with the indicator/main beam stalk?

Thanks in advance

Update – the right front indicator is drawing power to be permanently on when I put on the side lights (depress the switch on the dash halfway), any suggestions?

The early fuseboard uses single terminals for quite a number of connections, possibly someone has mis-connected the RH blinker circuit (black/green) to one of the 'sidelight' circuits (grey, grey/black,grey/red) ?

The 'late' fuseboard pretty much eliminates this problem by using multi-pin plugs, which are all different.

Thanks but I haven't touched the wiring on the fuseboard and this fault appeared a couple of days ago :(

Take the side light lamp out and switch the side lights on, if the indicator fails to light up and does it only when you have the sidelight lamp in then the earthed side of the sidelight is probably iffy and may be 'borrowing'the indicator to get back to earth by some circuitous route.

I havent worked this out or anything, and it could be complete bull squirt but its a very easy thing to check
