Washing westfalia pop top tent.

Post by Rascal »

Has anyone removed a westfalia pop top tent. Bunged it in the washing machine with nikwax tech was to re waterproof ( I'm aware spray versions are available)
But the one I just acquired is in need of a good clean aswell
It would allow me to service the roof etc while I'm at it.?

Hello,

I have done this with my pop top, but sprayed on the wax after.

I scrubbed the oily marks where the spring had touched and then straight in the wash.

I have fitted Velcro to mine, so it can come off in no time.

Cordialement,

:ok

You will need a really big washing machine.
Our 6kg frontloader was struggling with the thick tent material.

My machine does 7kg.. Just need to commit and undow a lot off screws and remove the tent now. Been chucking it down today. So as soon as I get a dry day in the machine it goes.. I'll do my best to show a before and after. As it really needs a wash. Then I'll have to wash again with the reprofer..

Tent came off nice and easy... The upper edge has no bead and appears to have been crudely trimmed along the sides. Going to soak the tent overnight to get rid off the stubborn stains.. And while I wait for the new stainless steel screws from brikwerks any recommendations for which westfalia seal to buy.. I understand there are several option. For the pop top.. Single piece or two piece withthe seal. Around the edge having an extra"bulb" as opposed to just edging strip

Thanks
Russ
