Inspection hatch detail

Should there be a little bit of stainless J or U section stuck to the panel about here, to stop the spring clip on the inspection hatch scraping the paint off?
Pretty sure that one of the SA built vans used to have one :?

Yeah I've got a metal "clip" on mine as well.
