Oil Breather Tower
Is there any maintenance that needs to be done on this item or is it just a conduit without any filter inside, does the cap come off to reveal a filter or is it just a hollow plastic tube connected to a rubber hose which in my case connects to an intake on the Carb.

Re: Oil Breather Tower
Non-serviceable part. there is a diaphragm and light spring up top, under conditions of high crankcase pressure (higher rpm's and loads) it allows blowby gases to enter the inlet air and be burned.
At small throttle/high vacuum it is clamped shut and keeps emissions down.
The diaphragms are often torn by now (if you unbolt it and take out the oil baffle it can be inspected) Get a new one if it has failed, JP make replacements and they are ok.

Re: Oil Breather Tower
When the oil baffle is removed (it draws out, only fits one way) you'll see the preather pipe inside and the diaphragm above it.
It'll probably be all gungy in there, a wash out with solvent will give a better view. A tear should be obvious to see, assuming there's anything left if it at all!

Thanks again, the word Emissions alerted me, mine passed ok last MOT but always erring on the side of caution.

Re: Oil Breather Tower
if you look under the top rim there is a small breather hole that opens the top of the diaphragm to atmosphere, clean it out and you can use it to check if the diaphragm is sound.
