Brakes going weird
Hihi
Brakes went weird today. Only working half way down. Feels like the the brake cylinder is only working halfway or not returning fully. Is that a thing with a hydraulic brake system? Was fine last night but a little low on brake fluid that I topped up but no joy. Still have brakes but only half?!? Pads ok no looks of leaks inside or out?

Re: Brakes going weird
They have a dual circuit braking system if one circuit fails the pedal travel extends. Either caused by loss of fluid in one circuit or if no loss of fluid, then one of the seals in the master cylinder has failed. Other problems would be mechanical like the rear brake shoes adjuster bar has slackened.

Re: Brakes going weird
Pointer to major failure on master/slave cylinder seals or hoses. Do a corner by corner check at each wheel with a torchlight. See if backplates are showing wetness on rear wheels and inside drums if fitted with such. Disc brakes are easier with wheel removed. See for similar signs as with the drum brakes. Are you also getting the dash warning light illumination?
Re: Brakes going weird
No warning light. I’m going to strip down and look.
Kind in need my brakes.

For what its worth it might be an idea to start off with a dummy bleeding session - anything not looking quite right might give you a clue and the wasted fluid would be minimal. I am sympathetic to the master cylinder source especially if none of the slaves or their plumbing are leaking.

Re: Brakes going weird
But that doesn’t explain the reason that I’m more thinking of?

Re: Brakes going weird
So little embarrassed didn’t realise the rear wheels were hydraulic too. It’s leaking from there. Is there a safety thing for the front and rear wheels? Ie will front brakes still work but back won’t? Or will all fluid drain from the rear meaning I have no brackets?
