Outrigger Support - am I missing something.
As the title really...
I have looked on the Brickwerks website, and it lists left and right outrigger supports.
(Not for left hand drive or right hand drive).
On my 1983 model panel van, I do not have a support on the right side.
Is this normal?
Do I need to bother about it?
I am only asking, as I have got all the lower panelling off at the front, as part of my rebuild, and having something that looks like it could be 'missing' mildy torments my inner OCD.
Left side - support in place, but with outrigger cut away.
Right side - flat bar, no support, and outrigger still in situ.
All very perculiar...

I’m lost, can’t tell what I’m looking at. You say outrigger, and I’m expecting to see the beam that comes from the main chassis rail out to the sill by the front jacking point. Is that what you’re referring to?
Have you ever seen an unhappy fool?

Ah, are you meaning the forward angled piece behind the front step that comes forward to meet the front of the van? Wots pretty important for crash protection integrity? Just noticed the indicator hole...

Yes it is odd that both the bracket that the lower tracking arms attach to,
and the diagonal box sections are called outriggers.
Or at least to Brickwerks they are.

I suppose I should have said "Front" Outrigger, not just outrigger.
And this is the "Support" that I do not have.

Re: Outrigger Support - am I missing something.
All I can say is -
This is an early RHD and obviously left the factory without the right hand support.
Before I started attacking the van in 2012, the van had been virtually unmolested.
Simply converted from a van to a camper.
No "structural" changes.

How odd,
Fancy having one on rhd,
but both on lhd.

Re: Outrigger Support - am I missing something.
My Caravelle built December 1985 has both diagonal outriggers. I wouldn't want to drive a rhd without one on the driver's side

Re: Outrigger Support - am I missing something.
It is quite a few inches to the side of the steering relay unit and the steering rods.
In fact you can see the mounting frame for the relay unit to the right of the vertical strip in my second photo above
I am also quite certain that the pedals and pipe-work are all reasonably clear of where the support would go.
I will be seeing the van tomorrow (Monday) evening for more rusty metal removal.
I will have a proper look then - If I remember.

Re: Outrigger Support - am I missing something.
I have had a good look, and I cannot see anything that would clash with the support piece.
To be honest the box section that it is welded onto is only quite thin steel - perhaps 18 swg.
So litterally a support, not a brace or rigidiser.
UPDATE - Actually I have found something.
The accelerator pivot assembly looks very close to where the front right outrigger support would go.
