Isn't that where the alloy has been mashed so just looks shiny?

Re: Aircooled knocking
Instead of big bore for a bit more power I'd recommend going for these
https://www.heritagepartscentre.com/uk/ ... -94mm.html
and a new/good used head.

Re: Aircooled knocking
I don't like the new website at all. Much harder to find stuff (but not as awful as the new Coolair site!). I only found these because I've bought them before, so looked under Porsche.Davegrohl99 wrote:Cant believe I didn't see them when purchasing. Literally have new heads arriving today..

The engine I built with them was sweet, and here's some feedback I received from the customer:
"she's running great. The engine has so much more power and doesn't even slow down up hills. And she seems to be a lot better on fuel now too."

Holy crap, I didn't know about these when I rebuilt my top end...well let's say the infamous mechanic didn't know about them (btw never go to VW Evolution in Salsbury).
How much more power do you reckon you get from these starting from a factory 79hp?

Re: Aircooled knocking
I'm so disappointed in their website. It clearly states the different t25 engine codes below it and they are no where to be seen in the T25 engine drop down menu.ajsimmo wrote:I don't like the new website at all. I have sent then an email my new standard heads arrived today and I'm going to promptly return then as I am really not happy with this.
Of course I will have to pay for the return shipping from Ireland which will be fun

Ha! There's another Louth then. I'm a Lincolnshire lad, so just assumed...
Maybe you could argue the point that had their website been better designed you'd have been able to find what you wanted the first time! No harm in asking for a goodwill gesture.

Re: Aircooled knocking
So sent back the original heads and the High compression heads are on the way.
Just cleaned the heads blasted them in the new blasting cabinet and installed new valve guides.
New valves to go in also so hopfully more pics to follow and some good progress!
Anyone any ideas on cleaning the oil cooler have tried brake cleaner. Dunno if its okay to leave it soak in degreaser over night?

Re: Aircooled knocking
Hello,
I clean and test the oil air cooler by propping it in a container so that it can be filled with thinners and left overnight.
No loss of fluid...
It is worth straightening any damaged fins
Do not take off the iron bracket..
Air-Cooled Bliss..

Re: Aircooled knocking
Good progress today finished lapping in the valves on my 1600 rebuild which is practice for the two type 4 heads.
I have tried to grind away as much of the debris from the incident and tried a light polish.
It isnt pretty but should do the job. 4 new inlet and 4 new exhaust valves are also awaiting a long working life to start.
Enough grinding for one day

Re: Aircooled knocking
Hello,
Well done on recovering the cylinder head.
New valve guides are a must, I would suggest Stainless steel exhaust valves...
and don't forget to lap the cylinder into the head..

I installed all new guides last weekend after blasting and thoroughly cleaning the head.
Hope to start valve grinding again this evening and I just seen my High compression heads are on there way to me today

Well it's a partially educated guesstimation, but considering increasing the compression ratio on the WBX 2.1 from 9:1 to 10.5:1 gave a claimed 17bhp increase from an otherwise mechanically identical engine, I would say that you might reasonably expect 10-15% more power, but to release it you may have to run on 98RON petrol and advance the timing 3-5°.
