Caravelle window panel

Post by dannylad »

Hi there,

I'm Danny and i have recently took on a project fixing up an old Y reg T3 Caravelle.

I've been cracking on and gutted the inside taken out everything and reupholstered the inner panels up in the high top, down at the back and put down new lino. Next what im on now is painting the cupboards ready to refit them.

What i'm looking at next and the reason why i need some advice is the rust.
I have had old cars back in the 90's and had a go at grinding and filling the gaps but theres two windows that definitely need new panels welding in.
As this is the Caravelle i have done as much reading as possible and gather that i can't just weld a piece in and cut out the shape and have the window put back in as i think it's recessed? is that the right word? rather than flush..

Would i need to order these panels from somewhere special that fit the windows in or a scrap cut of an old van?

Any point in the right direction would be most appreciated

Danny. :ok

ImageImageImage Hi mm,

Thanks for your response.

I have attached these photos..
The measurements are 1050x410 and 960x460.

I think the back one is flush.
Is there aftermarket options for me?

Danny

That’s a panel van conversion, so the window frame is basically a sheet of 0.9mm flat steel with a big window shaped hole cut into it , you can just use flat steel to re-make it

Thanks for your replies.. thats great news.

It does say Caravelle on the log book so it did leave me stuck as when i stripped it down it looked done by an amatuer :)

How involved is the caravelle window repair mine has bubbled in the bottom corner. I was initially looking for body cuts but they don't look much better

I think on this van it should of been done many years ago, the last owner just bodged it best he could and now after standing for 3 years its as bad as it can get i would say.

If it was minor like in the corner i reckon i would just grind and patch it?

Contact AH Schofields they will make you a solid panel that you can weld in and chop your own window hole into it

Don’t trust log book descriptions, many converters lied when changing details to up the value .
autosleeper is well known for putting Caravelle on the log book when it was only a panel van .
autohomes ( CI) also did it , also they did use base model Velle’s sometimes .

Thanks Mocki,

my friend was sure it came out of the factory as a Caravelle and was fitted out professionally.. after taking it to bits there is no way someone done it and gotten paid :)
But this has just made life so much easier now its just panels i'm hoping be catching the back end of summer for its first outing.
