Heater Cable Control Adjustment
Anyone know please if the control cables not being adjusted correctly could cause the flaps in the heater to rattle noisily for eg following traffic on motorway etc.( Or anything else ? )
Trying to avoid taking out the dash again !!
Thanks in advance

Re: Heater Cable Control Adjustment
Assume you are referring to the air flow direction flap , from screen to feet ?

Re: Heater Cable Control Adjustment
I think that is the main one though looking at Bentley diagram it could be any of them.
Moving the levers makes no difference to whatever is loose, which makes me think it is adjustment of tension on the control cables, this is probably wishful thinking as I am hoping the dash does not need to come out again.
Whatever is loose does sound like something metallic flapping loose, at motorway speed it is difficult to ignore or have a conversation, without slowing to find a gap in the traffic, lol
Thanks, any info greatly appreciated.

Re: Heater Cable Control Adjustment
So can you successfully direct the airflow up to the screen and shut it off so no air goes to the screen
and likewise with the floor vents ?

Re: Heater Cable Control Adjustment
I believe, from the one that I replaced, that they are a fixed length with "hooks" at each end. Can't see how you adjust them..Happy to be wrong tho.
I didn't remove the dash and did keyhole surgery via the ashtray and radio openings.

Re: Heater Cable Control Adjustment
There is adjustment between the the inner and outer cables, by moving the outer further back or forth in the clamp if I remember correctly , at the knob-end *
*knobend refers only to the dash controls
*knobend refers only to the dash controls

Re: Heater Cable Control Adjustment
Ahhh! I see...I must of been lucky and got it right by chance...i do need to replace the foam on the flaps at some point tho, but I'm not
ready to pull the dash and fan out just yet...I get warm in the winter and cool air in the summer, until the fan packs in it can stay put.

Re: Heater Cable Control Adjustment
Yeah, I haven’t been able to switch off the airflow to the floor on mine for ten years, but hot/ cold works, I can switch the screen vents off and the rear vents on and off and the fan works, so it’ll wait ..... lol

Re: Heater Cable Control Adjustment
Thanks for the help.
Main vent does not quite completely shut nor fully open, so maybe adjustment?
