Stiff hot/cold lever on heater

Post by jjht25 »

Ey up!

In last night's downpour I had to make use of the demist on my van for the first time. It's an early air-cooled set up with just 4 levers. The hot/cold air was so stiff I ended up breaking the panel a little and found it had been simply glued on!

Two questions...

The stiff hot cold will be the cable... I think a little grease/wd40 of the mech should do it because the heating works ok... but I'd like to check?

Should the panel have clips? and does anyone have a spare 😆

Thanks in advance x

Jon

I think it that it'll need looking at at some point...

I've too many things other things to do on the van at the minute 😀

Three because you have no hot air feed along the walkthrough to the rear passenger compartment.

With luck you can just straighten the bent wire, as long as it’s a straight push into the outer you should be good. (Unless you have a sticking flap...)

I've just tied then together... We now have either cold air or hot demisters 😬

Four cables on three sliders? thats new to me. Mr Bodger in the past maybe? I renewed my heater cable early this year because mine was stiff and in the end it bent and snapped so for what it's worth just replace the cable, it's a cheap job and is pretty simple to sort. Will save you a lot of effort p'ing around with it when it's cold.

Maybe trace those two cables on the heater control to see where they end up?

It’s air cooled, so there are two cables , one to each side heat exchanger pod  to switch the heat off ?

They do need tracing and sorting... It's fine for now (just want to get out camping!) but I'll just replace them in a few weeks!
