Manky steering wheel

Post by TONYT25T25 »

Does anybody know how to clean the standard large steering wheel, mine during the warmer months sweats leaving dirt marks on hands. Tried various cleaners but it never seems to clean it properly (not sure if it is a result of working on vehicle and then test driving without cleaning hands etc). Thought of buying a cover but unsure of size to order on line. I have another one but this looks the same, as if the covering has worn away leaving worn rubber residue  .

I used ( before it was worth more than actual gold) 80% proof alcohol hand cleaner on mine , after using some and dropping it on the steering wheel and noticed it removed the grime as I wiped it off , so one would assume the isopropyl would work, but I haven’t got any ( haven’t got any spare hand sanitizer now either )

When I bought ours the wheel was horribly sticky.i actually used what I had to hand which were Eco friendly (apparently) baby wet wipes. Much rubbing came off horribly black but worked a treat.

Managed to get round to cleaning steering wheel, applied Swarfega with an old tooth brush then wiped off using paper kitchen towels, did this three times, then sprayed with kitchen degreaser and wiped off again hardly any muck on paper towel this time, then finally cleaned with tyre cleaning foam. Looks much better and hopefully has solved problem.

I've found Dettol 'Big and Strong Kitchen cleaning wipes' (as opposed to the normal Dettol wipes) really good...

I have used Milton Sterilising solution (tablets dissolved in water) on a clean rag to work quite well at getting rid of the sticky feel.

Thanks for all suggestions, haven't used camper so much recently, now I just wipe down the steering wheel with antibacterial wipes, hope to use it more next year during the warmer months when it is more of a problem/issue.

Mine was the same when I got it. Used it as a daily and have to parallel park. My sweaty mitts soon cleaned it all up.
