Covid-19 implications for SP 2020

Post by silverbullet »

Les Comes is the first big event to fall to the unfolding health crisis and obviously the situation is very fluid, so dare we look forward to SP and CJam or anything else?

You can look forward to it, of course - but don't be to disappointed when it doesn't happen.
Who knows! fingers crossed it won't have the impact many are suggesting.

Was out with friends on Wednesday (quiz night - exciting stuff), when they got a phone call to say their visas had been pulled meaning the trip was off. They were due to go to India in a few weeks time, they had recently been for jabs. They have been planning this since last summer. understandably upset and disappointed.

Really cannot see a dozen folk in a isolated field halfway up a welsh hill being classed as a major gathering .....
However weather folk dare book is a very different thing .....

We will have to play it by ear. The site is booked, but at the moment the MSA is not issuing event permits. It might all be a last minute thing!

Is a private gathering (with caveats) possible?

Possibly, but without a permit we would not be able to use the site for off-roading. I notice today that GLASS are cancelling all their planned events.

Bad news I am afraid - MSA have just emailed to say that they will not be issuing any permits until after June 30th, so that rules out Syncropendence on its normal date. We will have to play it by ear to see if it can be re-arranged at a later date.

So, if HMGovt deem that
"camping" will be one of the first of the hospitality industries to start up again (and possibly quite soon. Too soon?) what will RAC MSA have to say about it and more importantly, how would syncronauts feel about a gathering even if we were allowed to travel from the four corners of four nations to congregate in a field near Llanfyllin?

I was musing on the potential for a virtual SP, it now looks like camping will be allowed from July 4th.

From the 6th of July, the first minister of Wales will be lifting travel restrictions allowing free movement so what's the latest on SP 2020 or are we still waiting for the nod from the MSA? Camper Jam 2020 is cancelled so would there be a need to tag it onto a weekend either side of another VW event to make the trip worthwhile for those travelling from over the channel?
