1989 JX
The coolant boiled up in the expansion tank , both sides of the radiator cool , I think either water pump or stat,at fault , I decided to “hot “ wire the electric water pump to work constantly, This got me off the motorway, about 30 mile, with no problem , as I was in Holland I decided to leave my van with a friend, and return with parts, my question is would the electric pump worked for the 300 mile journey to Calais and get me home ?...
Regards

Re: 1.6 JX Getting Hot
There have been some water pumps where the impeller parts company from the shaft, (may have been the plastic impellers?), it isn't unheard of apparently. I wouldn't expect the electric pump to cope with a long journey as it isn't a great flow that is generated. May be too risky. I would go back with a new pump, thermostat and belt as a minimum.
