SHE WON'T START :(
I recently aquired a 1981 t25 Devon Moonraker with a 2.0 cu engine
it has twin dellorto carbs fitted
I have replaced the Distributor with an electronic svda, leads coil and plugs
New Battery,
Have also static timed it
However i cannot get it to start.
Am i missing something simple? i did remove the idle stabiliser and ignition control unit as i was told i didn't need either of these with the electronic dizzy.
i am now slowly losing my mind with it lol, I also have read that it could be the starter motor but looks like a strong spark at the plugs. Could it still be this ? that van had been sat for a long time before i got it and i did get it very cheap.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Have you done valve adjustment?

no i haven't, i assume i can find a video on youtube to guide me. Is there a set distance they should be at?

Make sure the dizzy is lined up for number 1 on the compression stroke and not 180 degrees out. (1 camshaft revolution = 2 crank revolutions)

Mine was 180 out.
It made no difference as long as No 1 is at tdc firing

That's the point.........number 1 firing when it is at TDC but NOT on the compression stroke.

I disconnected the fuel lines as they need replacing, but i have been giving it fuel while a friend turns her over
Timing is correct, so is the position of the dizzy, leads
There is spark.
Which is why i thought if may be the starter or wek earths.
Am going to te k the valves on monday, replace earths and try again, if not i guess ill try another starter

If it was running before you changed the dizzy, then it is almost certainly something you have done.
Start messing elsewhere and you are quite possibly going to compound the problem.
You might want to put the old system back on as a diagnostic test ?

It wasnt running before, thats why i got all new stuff, gor it as a project, it sounds like it wants to start, just cranks slow and wont fire.
Which is why i think it could be the starter or earths.

That's new information then
So, you need fuel and air in the right proportions and a spark at the right time.
You say you have spark at the right time, so you should be looking at fuel.
If it hasn't run for a long time you should manually pour an eggcup of fuel into each carb throat before starting - or is that what you are doing as you mention you have removed the fuel lines.
Have you removed the plugs and do they smell of fuel or are they dry ?
Poor earths and leads to the starter are common, a CU will start with remarkably low cranking, so charge the battery up or have it in a jump start situation. (14.4 v is better than 12.6v from a fully charged battery)
Tappet gaps could be a problem. Mine will not start when they are set correctly. I have adjusted them so it will start to keep the van mobile, but an engine strip and rebuild is in order on mine
Before messing with tappets I would do a compression test.
