Sticky Throttle

Post by itchyfeet »

I noticed the throttle on the tin top was a bit sticky on Friday, had a look today.

First I disconnected the cable at the carb and it was free to move but I added a bit of grease at each end anyway, checked carb that was free to move but added a little light oil anyway, then I thought must be the linkage underneath so I sprayed some oil on it.

None of these fixed it.

Scratched my head for a while then the penny dropped, only one thing left to check.....

It's only lasted 200,000 miles

The right hand side of my brain ( creativity) says I can fix it for nothing but I know it will take much longer to do that, the left side of my brain ( logic) says that life is short and they are cheap so it's quicker and easier to buy a new one......or maybe I will fix it myself........ :rofl

I bought a new one, not liking the postage from Brickwerks which is over a fiver minimum for what is just a tiny part I bought a 'genuine VW' one from VW Heratige on ebay saving a few quid which turned up today.

Looks like a poor quality aftermarket part, no VW number moulded in which is always the case with VW and it's not flat.

Should have gone to Brickwerks

Return it then, if it isn't as described

I'm sure VWH will want to sort it rather than have a hit on their seller performance

Is there a cause/effect relationship between the sticky throttle and the itchy feet?

Since I bought a camper and now have the ability to rebuild engines I really don't pussy foot around with the throttle on the tintop anymore which may have been a cause. Itchyfeet, pussy foot, there's a joke in there somewhere :rofl

Are you sure? Looks like OEM re-run but without VW markings, I am sure that Brickwerks supply goods produced the same way from what I remember reading on some of their items.

Pretty sure, maybe it's made by the same company that supplied VW then it's the same quality probably but it's not a genuine VW part, Brickwerks always state that. Brickwerks state the parts they sell are genuine VW so I expect a VW part number on it.

I remember buying Elring gasket sets and the water jacket seals had the VW part number scratched off, Elring made the for VW and they used the same tool but they were not allowed to sell them as VW parts with the VW part number.

No longer in a hurry, lets see what VWH say. Will probably replace if I can get a genuine one.

moulding marks are different, it was made in a different tool - looks like a copy. If it was made by the same company then it was a tool design change.
