Non VW Question. Paint removal from wooden Balcony

Whats the best tools for successfully approaching this job?
Orbital sander. I have an Erbauer rotary sander or Nitromors. Or Flame thrower.
I want to remove all flaking paint and get a decent key for repainting in white gloss.
Wood walls on either end of balcony. Each area about 8 square metres. So a lot of work.

It depends on the paint, if it's an oil based paint then have at it with a hot air gun - less collateral damage than a gas burner.

If it's water based acryil or similar then a chemical solution is the best.

Likely oil based as very very old. May have a bit of lead too. At least five coats of paint in some places

Normal oil based paint - caustic soda and cornflour. Cheaper than Nitromors and the like. Hot air gun/ burner will not get in the moulding.
I have used it for donkey's years for stripping pine doors, spindles etc. If you need more info just ask - I won't spend ages typing if not needed!

Not heard of the caustic soda/cornflour method but totally trust your sagacity.
However just one question...these are two very large vertical areas im dealing with. Around six feet deep rising to 12 feet high under roof eaves. Will it stick long enough to be effective?

That is where the cornflour comes into play - you make the mixture into a thick gravy like consistency. You can make it as thick as you want. There is a knack to making it.
