You might want to think twice about SGS engineering.
Ordered gas struts on a Sunday, they arrived on a Tuesday, great service I thought but they were damaged in transport, not their fault.

Two weeks later I still don't have replacements, I had to refit my old ones to go camping at the weekend, the after sales service is laughable.

They did send me some replacements last week after lots of calls by me ( they don't phone you) but they made them wrong, 100mm too long, what does that say about quality control? A week later, lots more phonecalls and broken promises and I get replacements but only two and not four that I ordered.
They promised the other two tomorrow but I'm not holding my breath.

I had a similar experience with SGS. Ordered my struts but which have 2 at a lower strength and 2at a higher. They labelled them incorrectly which consequently lead to my roof snapping the hinges and falling off the side.

They admitted they must have been labelled wrong but refused to help out with the cost of fixing the roof.

To this day I don’t really trust my struts from them.

SGS aren't far from me, so I've only ever dealt with them over the counter. Due to my own miscalculation the first set of struts I got from them didn't have right load rating, so I took them back and they swapped them, free of charge, for the more expensive adjustable variety, I think mostly to make their own life easier if returned again. The replacements have been fine though. So my own experience is quite different from the above - I guess that's the difference between counter service and email service.

the struts that were too long were labelled incorrectly, they make to order and so sombody selected the longer body and it must be printed end of the process because the gas pressure is printed too.
How do I know they added the right gas pressure?

This is an old post and sadly we are now facing the same issue.
Does anyone have an update of SGS, the quality of their gas struts etc.
We have searched high and low on the internet for replacement without success apart from SGS.
The information we have is from a sticker on strut is:
INDUSTRIAL CUSTOMLINE
GAS SPRINGS LTD
GS9011 02 91
Any help gratefully received
Cheers
Emma

Great thanks I have phoned them and they want some measurements before they supply. Next issue is the bracket they attach to on the van ! Ours is very rusty, held on by self tapping screws, question ? Can i buy a new one and where? Or will I have to get one made?
Any help gratefully received :D

Me again,

still struggling to resolve my roof issues.

The very rusty bracket is the same one pictured above long and painted white with the gas struts attached. Does anyone know where you can buy a new one of these?

My second issue is that we cant undo the bolts, to measure the struts ! They need the whole length of the strut unattached centre end to centre end and the length of the exposed rod (thin bit)when fully extended. Can anybody out there help me ?

Can this job get anymore difficult !

Any help very very gratefully received :ok

you don't need to measure just buy the struts advertised by SGS, happy to measure mine but need a pic of yours to be sure they are the same?

as for removing old bolts use a dremmel with a cutting disc or 4 inch angle grinder and a cutting disc ( I used the later)

you can't buy a bracket, clean the old one up, treat with vactan and paint, it's made from thick steel it will still be strong enough.

It's as difficult as you make it.

where on the south coast?

Hi Itchyfeet
Thanks for the advice.
I will get the struts ordered and keep my fingers crossed.
The front bracket is very very rusty and has started to split apart, we are concerned that we will damage it more when trying to remove the gas struts, it looks a bit like slices of metal....urg .
We are in chichester
I could whatsapp some photos over as unsure how to upload them
:ok
