More SA rust and dust

Post by silverbullet »

I am convinced that this bus has been in a flood in its previous life out in SA 1995-2003 (the rear chassis rails were full to half depth with fine red sand when I fitted the towbar)
This is a blister that I have been ignoring...then I poked it!
Repairs to follow.Image

Most of the stuff I’ve had dealings with from those sorts of countries tend to rot in lots of odd places due to sand that gets damp and rots from the inside like your picture

That's exactly it. Fine, red, iron-rich dust. Just what you dont want in the damp old UK.
I have yet to tackle this, too busy at work!

I have a 73 Doka bay from SA. Most of it is fine as there aren’t too many cavities. All of the drop gates looked perfect (apart from a bit of a rattle when lowered ) I had them media blasted and they looked like lace curtains!
The fine red sand just poured out.

Well I didn't even get to write an advert! Deposit taken and the bus will ride again in someone else's hands and with a different engine (probably a 7A 20v) once he has sorted the rust.
Engine installation now sold, gearbox under offer, keeping the alloys for road tyres on the syncro.
A good result for all.

Well, it's good news to know there is to be another survivor. I was starting to feel quite lonely :rofl
