Fuel expansion tank valve fallen off

Traced an annoying rattle and found ths hung up above expansion tank on filler side RHD. I know what it does and where it goes...nothing on other end of black pipe. But is it safe to continue driving and refilling with petrol? Away from home until monday.

Best to put it in place if it rains there is a chance of getting water into the fuel tank.

Bigherb...you are the man! Was getting very worried about lack of response and no one prepared to commit themselves. Ive taped over hole in tank as rubber seal is rotten.
What about other end? Should l keep petrol tank half empty etc

As long as you have stopped any water/dirt ingress that should be fine the tank should be able to breathe from the other expansion tank. Best not to fill it full as the expansion tank can't work if it is sealed.
