Excellent work, If you peen over the end of the bolt 8.8 will be fine
I tried both riveting and bolting but never fitted either on my DJ

Thanks! Yeah I saw that thread about changing the gears, it's where I got the idea in the first place in fact lol. Are you aware of anyone who's actually put a bolted 4-rivet cam in or am I the guinea pig here?

Grabbed the chance to do a wee bit more today, got the barrels out and gave them a quick hone with the 3-leg and some paraffin, the DJ barrels had some pitting sadly so I've put them aside for now. The 2nd hand set I got from FB didn't look as though they needed much so I used the fine stones on them.

I then put some 600 grit wet and dry onto a glass plate and gave them a few rotations, alternating between clockwise and anti-clockwise. Still some superficial scratches on the top surface, not sure if it's worth trying some coarser paper?

Checked the ring gaps, all around the 0.63 - 0.68mm mark on the top ring so worn but within spec. Gaps on the oil control rings was over spec though on all 4 barrels, not sure if there's much I can do about it since I think even with brand new barrels the gap would be fairly close to the limit.

While I'm on the rings, I'm not sure how I'm supposed to fit the oil control rings. I got these from Alan Schofields ages ago, and the oil ring has a red and a green end, are they supposed to be just butted together or overlapped? They seem to tend to overlap when I try and fit them.

Thanks
