Headlamp Washers

Post by Oilline »

Dont know if this is the right section but here goes.
Were headlamp washers ever fitted to round headlamp vans, or can it be retro fitted? Where are the washer jets positioned, do they have a separate switch or do they operate after so many windscreen washes?
Are the headlamp washer parts easy to come by?

As far as I'm aware they were only fitted to square lamp grills.

My Doka ( ex Swedish) is round lamped and has the washer pipes and over sized tank. But the nozzles are missing and the pipes blanked....

I think BW sell the nozzles, I just haven't bothered to look at them yet.

Thats good information !
Now according to this drawing, the washer jets mount to the grill at the 3 oclock/9oclock position.
They look quite chunky, do you think there is room to fit to a twin headlamp grille between the lamps?

My old 240 volvo had them on round headlights - the nozzles were mounted on the wiper arm. Would be easy enough to use them I should think. ( I used 2 volvo headlight motors for my boat wipers - they are better made than the original marine ones that were fitted). The volvo ones have a nice long shaft so that you can mount them quite far back behind the light.

I have a set of nozzles for sale but you would need the piping and water container to make them work

Can't see the point in just squirting water at headlights. You can clean them better with a damp rag :D

Hi Faggie
Which nozzles do you have? Are they for square or round headlamps? Or are they the same just mounted in a different position?

Depends on how many times you want to stop and get out and clean them on a long wet mucky motorway journey.

I've never had headlights get that dirty. Not in 30 years - except when I drove along the edge of a ploughed field some time in the late 80s. Besides, you need wipers to really make any difference. A squirt from a water pistol won't make any odds :D Lot of work for nothing.
