oil dripping between engine and bell housing

Hi All, I have a 1.6JX and it has dripped a bit of oil for a while (years) It appears to come from the metal 'gasket' between the engine and the clutch housing. Used regularly the clutch works fine, but if left for a week it judders in first from standstill but settles down after a run. Is it a fair assumption that regular use burns the oil off in the clutch and therefore drips less, but if left for a period of time it builds up and causes the judder and a greater dripping effect on the driveway!. I am thinking the correct thing is to change the clutch and I am assuming the oil seal is accessible from the bell housing end and the seal can be changed at the same time as the clutch? Any words of wisdom would be appreciated. Cheers Dan

In a nutshell yes although could be engine oil or gearbox oil. Latter is smelly - if that helps and each has its own seal.

Thanks for the reply. If it goes into a garage for a new clutch / new rear main seal, any idea on the time for this job / costs

depends on whether the crank endfloat is in spec
pointless fitting a seal if it isn't

Clutch change is -6 -7 hrs inc seal replace for my skilz.

Kev is right. Although without a leak (ie everything else in A1 condition), I can do a basic clutch change in just short of 32 minutes.

Sounds like you set yourself a challenge on that one well thanks for the input guys , I think this one is off to my friendly mechanic for a proper job
