There's a couple of detail ways.. but at the back near the hinge line you take it through behind the seal so any ingress flows off the inner tintop section back and out..
Thus although you can seal the hole in the f/g it isn't critical

That was my take on it during a discussion at CamperJam with a T5 Westy PV seller and DD(rob).... who does everything to a high standard.

tin top pop top would be simple that way but ive a t3 westfalia hightop just like the original poster of this thread and the only place i can put the solar panel is on front of the window on roof really struggling how to run the cable inside without drilling the roof

It's no big issue, you can buy proper electrical water tight grommets to go through the roof.
I did this with mine, it's never leaked.
The holes can be filled should you ever decide to sell it and remove the panel.

It's taking that step, I wittled about it for weeks, but I don't regret it.

If you zoom into the picture there is a gap in the insulation near the window
If you drill from below you'll miss the insulation

I used these..
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0079G1 ... ref=plSrch" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Your grp roof is no more than 5 mm thick.
I'll take some pictures
As you can see my roof is not westy, I'm not bothered by aesthetics' so its just functional to be able to gather as much power from the day and having the ability to tilt in any direction and at any angle.
I heat my shower water with it. The 150watt immersion heater takes just under 3 hrs to heat 15 litres, it draws 11 amps the panel supplies 8 amps so there's a 3 amp drain on the battery.
Which is soon replaced.
The whole thing works very hard, it has to, the panel and controller allow me to camp anywhere.
It's not just to charge a lap top or phone, it's there to make camping comfortable without want.

Here's a few from a recent trip.

thanks kevtherev thats some setup you have there with the ability to track the sun wish i had the room on my roof to do such ,being fixed on the roof on the westy im ranging from 6 amps full sun to 1/2 amps or less when it clouds over which it often does up here that and this 100 watt is as far as i can go roof has two roof vents fitted as standard.
you have a shower ? is it outside
i can see the two gland nuts in the first picture ive measured mine and there 12mm hole with thread 9mm nut is 4mm thick so 5mm left for roof cross fingers its long enough as have looked up and cant find any with a longer threaded area

Yes when abroad/in the summer we shower outside.
5 mm should be enough, but I would test drill it first.... it may be easier to drill to small holes to accommodate the wires from the panel, once in place use sykaflex to seal then in.
I've used glands because I wanted to remove the panel easily

ive done it drilled two 12mm holes on the slope below window that way the water coming off window/ roof is flowing naturally away and if it was to leak id see the damp on the curtain which also hides the 4mm solar c ables .two glands fitted silka 512 inside and around tightened down cables fitted panel fitted with 512 got weight on it till it sets will need to trim excess silka off and remove protective sheet tomorrow weather permiting .

ive seen showers fitted on tailgate is this where you have fitted your one .
