VW T25 Fixed side step Devon & Danbury

Post by Garry »

HI everyone

Although I've been a member a couple of years I haven't used the forum that much and I don't seem to be very good at it, can't for the life of me find out how to insert the image I wanted to!

I'm basically hoping some fellow T25 owners might be able to help me with some info. I've been looking at options for a step for the side door and have seen in an old Danbury brochure I have, and in some photo's of Devon Moonraker,s I've seen on the web, a small fixed side step that is in some way attached to the underside of the van ( There's also one fitted to the van pictured in the inside front cover of the 1979 to 1982 Transporter Haynes Manual). Does anyone know if this was a VW option at the time or just an option by Devon / Danbury themselves. (thinking if it was a VW option and could find a part number classic parts might have one?)

Failing that was thinking of getting one fabricated, I know this is really cheeky but if anyone has one on their van and would be will to post so photos would really help me.

many thanks

Garry

Do you mean like this (no connection to me) or the one that was linked to the sliding door so folds out when you open the door?

We have a fold out step that I think was a Devon option. It is pulled out sideways, then folds out
The actual step is screwed to two steel strips that have been welded to the underside of the van. It does not look like a VW thing, more a Devon add on, the step assembly looks like a commercially available unit.
I will try to post some pictures but it may be some time.

Hi all and thanks for your replies,

Hi leeME3 if you upload a photo I can't see it sorry, but not looking at the one that slides out with the door, because as nice as they are Classic parts want over a thousand pound for the full kit.

Can anyone tell me how I upload a photo? when I click upload attachment, select the file, and click add the file, i get a message saying the board is full?

Hi, I think I've found a way of getting an image on, or at least a link to one found this image on the net if you paste the link it will bring up a photo a of a rather sad looking Danbury with a step fitted.

Hi, Ya I thought that but spoke to vw heritage and that's only a replacement footboard for if you've already got one, to get the whole kit including the piece that goes on the door, mechanism etc, its over a thousand

Yes was wondering if they did the smaller and hopefully cheaper fixed one, I just can't bring myself to spend out that sort of money for a auto step as nice as it may look and be. That's why I was also thinking that if some was able to supply some photos of one, even if I got one fabricated it would still be a lot cheaper.

I have the auto step from a LHD minus the door part. I'd love to convert it to RHD
