Oil temperature gauge WBX
Anybody fitted an oil temp sender?
it has to be in the engine oil not on a t piece or remote t piece
thinking you could weld a boss into the oil filler tube low down?
Any other bright ideas?
Anybody know what this screw does?

I'm sure I read on your favourite social media page, the temp send us a probe that fits where the sender is between the front pulley. Mi shall go and check. Undo the bolt and see...
Why would the glass be anything other than half full?

Oil filter sandwich plates are available with just 1/8 npt threads although it may be more meaningful to measure the temp at the end of the circuit.

Thought it was going to be important
Re: Oil temperature gauge WBX
I'm in the process of fitting guage .just waiting for adapter to arrive from vw heritage it fits in place of the large screw that holds the oil relief Valve and spring and allows you to fit an aftermarket sender .although did see on ebay after I ordered a sump plug with same threaded adaptor for a sender 1/2 the price!

Re: Oil temperature gauge WBX
You may be suprised at the oil temps you get from that sender position, because its in the pump discharge (as per the Audi) so the readings will be "worst case"
You might need the 170*C gauge!

Re: Oil temperature gauge WBX
I though that just returned oil to sump if the valve was open due to high pressure (which it won't when hot), so would be sitting in sump oil
You have spent more time looking at wbx crank cases than me so I may be wrong?

Re: Oil temperature gauge WBX
Hmmm... strictly speaking its not directly in the pump discharge flow, but it might be a more stable place to monitor sump oil temps though.
Do Heritage recommend a gauge to go with the sender in this position?

Re: Oil temperature gauge WBX
Decided to try this cheapo at £23.50 delivered with sender ( pod extra) as it's for investigation of an oil coolers improvement and I will soon be bored looking at it.
1/8npt thread so drilled and tapped the plug ( lets hope it doesn't leak) tap cost about a tenner
compared the sender/guage with an accurate thermocouple meter in a cup of boiling water and it was about 5 deg C out so close enough for me.
will let you know how I get on.
