Re: New WBX vw oil pump cover
I would just like to point out that I used the thick one in an elring set as I knew nothing about this being a problem and I have 30 psi at tickover at 85 degrees and 50 Psi cruising at 50mph. It increases to 65 Psi with acceleration. So its not all that bad?

Re: New WBX vw oil pump cover
How are you measuring that 123-jn?
electric guages are not very accurate, I just fitted one to monitor the situation but compared to the wet guage it's not all that accurate, I connected both and compared.
I'm assuming thats a rebuilt engine not a high mileage 'recon' like mine?
looking at the pump it has a groove all round with a channel to the pressure side which can onlt be there to keep the gasket wet and stop it drying out
So I think it must be oil adsorbant paper not greaseproof.

Re: New WBX vw oil pump cover
That is going from the electric gauge but I used a britool oil pressure gauge at my mates garage to check the readings and my gauge apparently reads a few psi under at 30 and 10 psi under at 60. So not that far out really . The engine I rebuilt last christmas and has only done 4000 miles, so yes it's within spec.

Re: New WBX vw oil pump cover
i have just rebuilt my engine itchy and obtained new cover same as yours in pic covered in paint.. i double side taped a sheet of wet and dry in decreasing grades to some hard board and sanded the cover to remove paint and to ensure flat surface. I had a thin gasket in kit and i assembled cover to pump with and without gasket out of engine and torqued nuts and bolts to spec. without gasket gears did not turn... with gasket they turned and play was minimal.. i didnt measure it but it was minimal.. when i assembled into engine i packed pump with Vaseline to eliminate air lock and help it suck oil from the start. I fitted a vdo gauge and everything reads well with it.
oh yeah.. and pump was 30mm shedek and i was ummin and arring to open up outlet hole but decided against it in the end as shedek could of easily done this but didnt.. i thought best left alone

Re: New WBX vw oil pump cover
Thanks for the comments
I made a paper gasket at about 0.075mm half the stock gasket, it's good quality paper and so far so good so leaks, I also used a smear of yellow sealant for head nuts
I don't know if it's the pump or the gasket but it's definately pushed the pressure up.
Hot with stat open it WAS 0.8 bar idle, 1.5 Bar 2000rpm and 2.2 Bar 3000rpm, this hasn't changed in a year so it's not deteriorating just a bit low.
now it's 1 Bar at idle, 2 bar at 2000rpm and 3.2 Bar at 3000 rpm
pressure drops to 1.5 Bar at 2000 when hot driving around in traffic.
