Re: Where is the chasis number...??
can anybody give me an example of an engine number on a TDI engine. I've looked at my own AHU engine number and there are two numbers. the first on the alloy head 028103373N and the second screwed on the block 02M96 so which one is it? any help would be appreciated.
Why does everything I "want" - scrub that, need - cost so much?
Re: Where is the chasis number...??
Look at the injector side of the head. Count the third injector from left, or second from right
Look immediately under the head gasket, right at the top of the block. There will be a machined flat surface. It's also fortunatley
right under where the manifold exits the head.
So...... Once you've moved the wiring, glow plug buzz bar, bent your vision around the end of the injector pump you will hopefully find it.
It will be covered in rust, paint, scale, poo etc etc.
Spray with carb cleaner/brake cleaner, give it a rub and there should be a number there.
In all seriousness you can get to it, just a fiddle

The only one I could see in that area is a pressed steel plate which has slotted screws into the block with the following written on the plate "02M96". It just seems a bit short for an engine number. Is this right?

you checked the paper tag on the cambelt cover first, right?

took a look at the cambelt tag but nothing seems to marry up to the plate on the engine
