Re: 1.6 diesel install
I had a 2.0 prima diesel (non turbo) 60 bhp which is 10 more than you have in an ldv 200 which is lighter than yours and it was at times downright dangerous on motorways as I was a rolling road block up hills. I towed a 14 foot caravan with it once but only on the flat!!! I learned my lesson and when I bought my next LDV Pilot (same van) I threw the 70 bhp xud9 out and fitted an xud9TE turbo diesel from a peugeot 306 (90 bhp and 155 lbft) what a difference that made. Believe me you will want a 1.9 turbo why not do it while you are at it (they are pretty cheap).
Ps I had a bosch pump on mine and was able to add a rover intercooler and tweak the fuelling to give me 110 bhp and 220 lb ft without even trying. She still did 35 mpg with a hi top on.

Cheers for the comments.
The problem I have with fitting a larger engine is that I don't have any knowledge or the ability to get it done. I looked into the 1.9 AAZ a few years back but opted for the more simpler route of a basic 1.6D. I'm confident the engine I have is good and should be easier to fit for the person finishing my van. (bodywork and brakes wise) I know I haven't really looked/asked around but if someone could guarantee me a decent, more powerful engine and also fit it, then I would probably consider that as a option. I suppose I haven't driven a 1.6D but surely it can't be that bad; I am completely happy getting places a little slower. At the end of the day I plan on keeping my van, well, forever. I'm sure there will come a time when it is right to upgrade, maybe even sooner rather than later. After all, how hilly is the UK really?
