Testing your WBX oil pressure

This comes up from time to time when a buzzer of doom is going off and the recommendation is usually get the pressure tested to be sure
i'd think this is even more important with the early WBX that have only one low pressure sensor and no buzzer.
Well after my buzzer went off a couple of time last summer I thought i'd do just that only it's taken me a while to get around to it

yes I know I could fit a guage for the same money but not sure where to put it and not sure I need to look at it every time I drive it.

Pressures looked OK at 4 bar cold idle and 5 bar 3k rpm cold, 0.8 bar hot idle and 2.2 bar 3k rpm hot

Cheaper than booking it into a garage and easy to do.

E D I T that ebay link was now silly money so changed it but should be around £30-40

Be warned there are some guages that go up to much higher pressures but they would be no good for measuring accurately at low pressure you want 0-10 bar range

Interesting - so what's that you've connected the pipe to? Do you lose much oil connecting the pipe?

You take the sensor out and the kit comes with a range of screw in adaptors one is M10x 1 screw it in then the guage has a quick release fitting that snaps on
If you remove and fit cold there is no oil loss, when I tried to remove it hot the oil runs out
If you had to remove hot id say do it quick or drain the oil, remove it and refill the oil

Ah, ok, that's the pressure sender, of course. I haven't explored that bit of my engine yet. Just a matter of time though, I'm sure.

Hi, just looked at the gauge, Does it "go up in 5lbs increments ? mine is fine at higher up the scale but not much good at low down pressures (as you've said). thanks

scale didn't come bent I did that trying to take it appart

My wet guage is permenantly connected, and you can read it in the cab.

Jus' sayin'

Not long after fitting it, my buzzer went off and the red light was telling me the engine was moments from death... a quick look at the worry gauge and my fear was extinguished.
pulled in at the next services and refitted the connector.
Other time, the pressure was dropping alarmingly at 3000 rpm, then the temp gauge started to creep up, stopped straight away to find the coolant sender peeing coolant out.

I might fit a permanent one yet but this is a tool that any diy mechanic can use and for the money worth it I think
