Front Heater Fan Required

Post by Tufty_B »

Hello there, I'm sure that this will be one of many questions.

I've recently bought a T3 Syncro and the front heater fan wasn't working.
After a bit of diagnosis - soldered up a test lead with fuse and fed the switch direct from the battery because the existing power feed to the switch was dead and it was not the original cable (black) and not connected to the original fuse - I have now deduced that the switch works (I also took it out and checked continuity - all OK). I could hear the fan turn on at all speeds but it was struggling and made a nasty noise, so it looks like a dash out and new fan motor.

Is the JK replacement motor worthwhile at £30.56 + P&P (£5, though I might get a few other bits at the same time) = £35.56, or is the Brickwerks one a better option at £31.20 + P&P (£9.92) = £41.12 or are there any alternatives?

I replaced ours with the Brickwerks version which has been fine. BW stuff always seems to be the best quality so there are no false economies.

If it helps, here's my thread on fitting - there are several others... https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=106887" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Also - we could start a very exclusive club - Westys converted from Caravelles - although yours looks a lot tidier than ours and is a genuine version whereas ours is a Mosaic.

I'm tempted to get the BW fan after reading about the general quality of the JK stuff.

I've read and re read the forum wiki and now your thread, I can see via the glovebox that my fan has been looked at in the past because there is red gloop around the clipped joint. I had hoped that it was the switch this time but it seems not.

This will be my first job the van, it will be my initiation into the way of the T3.
