Interior Cupboard Door broken when being recovered - help

Post by Sjh_987 »

Hi,

Firstly Happy Christmas and I hope your vans get a Christmas treat this year :D

We tried touring in France this summer in our 1985 Devon Conversion T25 but unfortunately broke down outside Beziers (after an amazing week in the Pyrenees). To cut a long story short 3 months later the van has been returned to us and we have got Archie back working again (I would suggest giving the AA European Cover a wide birth but anyway...) Whilst being stored / in transit back to the UK the van has been used and a little trashed inside, including the bike rack being bent where Archie has been reversed into something. The mud, dirt and a few broken bits I can fix but a door hanging off is a bit of a problem.
Please see the picture but I'm trying to find a replacement interior cupboard door (the hinge has been ripped out leaving a big hole in the woodchip so can't really fill it.

Does anyone have any ideas where I can source one from?

It measures 29*31cm

Many thanks

Stefan

My first piece of advice is write to them and complain.

I wrote a rather stern letter to a recovery company that used a forklift on V's van when it was stolen and recovered. They fessed up, paid close to 1k to cover the cost of a new propex, repair damage to the underneath and fuel tank being replaced etc.

Fill the hinge holes with two pack epoxy resin, drill a slightly smaller hole than the fastener and screw it in
getting a door from a 1985 interior is not easy

easier mending it than replacing IMO

I second what Kev said. That's a good, solid repair method from experience.

I managed to use some runny super glue to drip into the edge of our Devon doors were they where starting to split, this then makes a better surface to use filler onto, otherwise it is like gluing to a Wheatabix
I also used the same trick into the hinge locations after unscrewing then to make the doors last a bit longer
